First things first folks. Let’s get one thing straight: this is really all about the sauce!
Yes, brown rice bowls are amazing, but really, the options are endless and you can throw in whatever veggies you like. Like this one, I prefer to include at least one roasted vegetable, like yams or squash, with at least one steamed or sautéed vegetable, usually something green like broccoli or spinach. But that’s just my taste. Feel free to experiment to your heart’s desire!
Can I just take a moment to say how much I’m loving bowls like this lately! You may have seen a lot of them popping up on my social media in the past few months. In these cold stressful winter months pretty much all I’ve wanted to eat is comfort food bowls like this! It takes some prep time to prepare all the components, but I always make enough to get at least a couple meals out of it. Plus a big selling point for me is that the components usually work equally well at room temp, with or without some salad greens. This means I can also use the leftovers to take to school!
I came up with this 5-Ingredient Miso Sesame Sauce when I wanted something a little different from my usual lemon-tahini sauce, which is literally just tahini and lemon juice (and maybe a little water, cayenne, or black pepper). This delicious Asian inspired sauce has loads of flavour but still only 4 ingredients (5 if you count water as an ingredient or add cayenne)! It’s also super easy and quick to throw together. I love this sauce so much that I was literally eating it with a spoon and making sure I didn’t waste a single drop from the bowl!
5 Ingredient Miso Sesame Sauce (Yields ½ cup)
1 tbsp miso paste
3 tbsp warm/hot water (Tap water will do. Don’t use boiling water)
3 tbsp tahini
1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1 tsp sesame oil
¼-½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
In a small bowl, whisk together the miso paste and water until combined.
Whisk in other ingredients until smooth.
Drizzle over your favourite grain and veggies or use as a dip. Enjoy!
